Une journaliste malade, un rappeur enrhumé, des sapes signées Tealer et la Tour Eiffel à portée de main : tel fut le cadre de notre rencontre avec le très optimiste Kikesa qui s’apprête à retourner l’Olympia pour présenter son premier album, « PUZZLE ». Interview. // A sick journalist, a cold-stricken rapper, Tealer’s clothes and the Eiffel Tower at hand : this was the setting for our meeting with the very optimistic Kikesa who is about to set the Olympia Hall on fire to present his debut album, « PUZZLE ». Interview.
OFIVE : Peux-tu nous faire un petit résumé de ton parcours ? // Can you give us a brief summary of your background?
Kikesa : Je fais du rap depuis très longtemps mais c’est fin 2017 qu’on a décidé, avec mes potes avec qui je fais de la musique, de sortir un morceau par semaine pendant un an. On a fait ça pendant toute l’année 2018 et ça a évolué de façon incroyable. Au début, on faisait 1000 vues en une semaine pour finir par des scores à 100 000, 200 000. On a appelé ça les Dimanche De Hippie. On a eu la chance d’avoir de la visibilité grâce à Seb la Frite également. Aujourd’hui je lance ma carrière solo même si je fais toujours du son avec les mêmes gars. // I’ve been doing rap for a very long time, but it was at the end of 2017 that we decided, with my friends with whom I make music, to release one song a week for a year. We did this throughout 2018 and it evolved incredibly. At first, we made 1000 views in a week and ended up with figures of 100,000, 200,000. We called it « Hippie Sunday ». We were lucky to have visibility thanks to Seb la Frite too. Today I’m launching my solo career even if I still do music with the same guys.
OFIVE : Pourquoi avoir appelé ton album « PUZZLE » ? // Why did you call your album “PUZZLE” ?
Kikesa : Je fais du rap mais je fais surtout de la musique au sens large. Chaque morceau est différent, comme les pièces d’un puzzle. Aucune pièce n’est identique à l’autre mais ensemble, elles forment un tout. Mon album propose plusieurs styles de morceaux mais le tout reste cohérent. Sur la pochette, il manque une pièce du puzzle mais ça, c’est une autre histoire… // I do rap but I mainly do music in the broadest sense. Each song is different, like the pieces of a puzzle. No two pieces are identical, but together they form a whole. My album offers several styles of songs but everything remains coherent. On the cover, a piece of the puzzle is missing but that’s another story…
OFIVE : Ton meilleur souvenir de festival cet été ? // Your favorite festival this summer ?
Kikesa : Les Vieilles Charrues en Bretagne, c’était incroyable, c’était blindé jusqu’au fond du terrain, les gens sautaient partout. Les bretons sont vraiment trop chauds. // The Vieilles Charrues in French Brittany, it was incredible, it was full till’ the bottom of the field, people were jumping everywhere. The Bretons are really too cool.
OFIVE : Tu enchaînes sortie d’album et Olympia, ça fait quel effet ? // You’re releasing an album and performing at the Olympia hall at the same time, how does it feel ?
Kikesa : C’est incroyable ! Je le fais surtout pour m’amuser. C’est comme si j’avais loué la salle pour organiser une fête géante. J’étais déjà monté sur la scène de l’Olympia pour une collaboration avec Seth Gueko mais je n’y suis jamais allé en tant que spectateur. J’ai vraiment hâte, c’est comme si j’attendais ma fête d’anniversaire. // It’s incredible ! I do it mostly for fun. It’s like I rented the room to throw a giant party. I had already performed at the Olympia for a collaboration with Seth Gueko but I never went there as a spectator. I’m really looking forward to it, it’s like I’m waiting for my birthday party.
OFIVE : Ton plus beau voyage ? // Your best travel ?
Kikesa : J’ai habité à Toronto avec ma copine de l’époque. On est partis à l’aventure, sans connaître personne et sans travail. C’était génial mais je suis devenu trop peureux pour reprendre ce genre de risque. // I lived in Toronto with my girlfriend at the time. We went on an adventure, without knowing anyone and without a job. It was great, but I got too scared to take that kind of risk again.
OFIVE : YouTube ou Instagram ? // YouTube or Instagram ?
Kikesa : Instagram car c’est de l’instantané, je suis tous les jours dessus. Mais je passe quand même beaucoup de temps sur YouTube en tant que consommateur. Je ne regarde pas souvent la télé mais plutôt des vidéos YouTube aléatoires qui tournent sans cesse. C’est devenu ma télévision. Je regarde pas mal de zap tv par exemple. // Instagram because it’s instantaneous, I’m on it every day. But I still spend a lot of time on YouTube as a consumer. I don’t watch TV often, but rather random YouTube videos that are constantly running. It has become my television. I watch a lot of tv zappings for example.
OFIVE : Ta plus grosse fierté ? // Your biggest pride ?
Kikesa : Faire l’Olympia en présence de tous mes potes et ma famille. Surtout quand je vais voir mon nom écrit en lettres rouges. // Perform at the Olympia with my whole family and my friends. I can’t wait to see my name written in those big red letters.
OFIVE : Si demain ta carrière s’arrête, que fais-tu ? // If your career stops tomorrow, what would you do ?
Kikesa : Je postule en tant que comptable dans une boîte parisienne pour rester sur Paris. // I would apply as an accountant in a Paris company to stay in the Capital city.
OFIVE : As-tu un talent caché ? // Do you have any hidden talent ?
Kikesa : J’invente des blagues assez facilement. // I can create some new jokes easily.
OFIVE : Ta collaboration de rêve avec un artiste français ? // Your dream collaboration with some French artist ?
Kikesa : Mylène Farmer, son dernier morceau est fantastique. Elle sait rester actuelle. // Mylène Farmer, her latest track is amazing. She knows how to stay trendy.
OFIVE : Si on te proposais un rôle dans une série ? // If you were asked to play in a tv show ?
Kikesa : La série « Family Business » sur Netflix.
OFIVE : Le meilleur et le pire compliment qu’on pourrait faire sur ton album ? // The best and the worst compliment we could say about your album ?
Kikesa : Pour le pire : que ça ne ressemble pas à ce que je fais ou à ce que je suis. Pour le meilleur : que les gens me disent qu’ils ont compris où je voulais en venir et que ça tue. // For the worst: that it doesn’t look like what I do or who I am. For the best: for people to tell me that they understood where I was going and that it’s lit.
